HL Deb 30 January 1986 vol 470 c883WA
Lord De Freyne

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the present regulations governing advertising on BBC 1 and BBC 2.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Glenarthur)

Clause 12 of the Licence and Agreement between the Home Secretary and the BBC (Cmnd. 8233, 2nd April 1981) states that the corporation shall not without the prior approval of the Secretary of State receive money or any valuable consideration from any person in respect of the sending or emitting, or the refraining from sending or emitting, of any matter whatsoever by means of the stations or any of them, and shall not send or emit by any means thereof any sponsored programme. The BBC has not sought, and the Secretary of State has not granted, such approval.
