§ Lord Young of GraffhamUnit labour costs for the whole economy rose by 3.4 per cent. between 1982–83 and 1983–84, and by 2.8 per cent. between 1983–84 and 1984–85.
In the first half of 1985–86, the latest period for which information is currently available, unit labour costs were 4 per cent. higher than in the first half of 1984–85. The 1985 Autumn Statement forecast no major change in the growth of labour costs for 1986.
