asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has made an assessment of the number of single householders who will benefit by his new rating proposals; and if he will make a statement.

While the proportion will vary from area to area, and I do not have detailed figures, I would expect that over 80 per cent. of all single householders in Scotland would benefit and among them over 85 per cent. of single pensioners.
