HC Deb 26 February 1986 vol 92 c547W
Mr. Favell

asked the Secretary of State of State for Northern Ireland what assessment he has made of the benefit of lignite development for Northern Ireland and of the time scale on which these will accrue.

Dr. Boyson

Lignite development in Northern Ireland offers the possibility of significantly reduced electricity generation cost and the creation of new employment in mining and in the construction of power stations. The first lignite fired power station should come into use in the early to mid-1990s.
