§ Mr. Jim Spicerasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what financial and other support he is giving to British manufacturers wishing to further commercial relations in Turkey.
§ Mr. Alan Clark[pursuant to his reply, 21 February, c. 357]: Official export services, including ECGD cover and other financial assistance schemes, are available to British firms wishing to do business with Turkey. I hope that commercial relations will be strengthened following contacts between British and Turkish businessmen during the Turkish Prime Minister's visit and by the fothcoming visit by the Under-Secretary of State for the Treasury and Foreign Trade.
§ Mr. Jim Spicerasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement about progress on Turkish fabric manufacturers' recent commercial initiatives aimed at redressing the balance of textiles trades between Turkey and EEC countries; and what plans he has for developing these initiatives.
§ Mr. Alan Clark[pursuant to his reply, 21 February, c. 357]: I welcome the recent voluntary restraint agreement on textiles between Turkey and the European Community. The level of imports of the products subject to restraint will be monitored carefully. I hope that this agreement can be extended to cover sensitive clothing products in a comprehensive agreement. Discussions on such an extension are continuing.
