HC Deb 24 February 1986 vol 92 cc428-9W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will investigate the possibility of giving each local education authority school more financial and educational independence.

Mr. Dunn

The Education Bill currently before Parliament makes provision to remove local education authority domination of governing bodies and to strengthen the parents' voice; and to enhance the governing body's role in all aspects of a school's life and work. These more balanced governing bodies will, in partnership with the local education authority and head teacher, have significant powers in respect of finance and in determining their schools' main policies and lines of development.
