asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the number of courses of Russian which have been terminated at universities or polytechnics in each of the last seven academic years.

The numbers of universities and colleges of London university listed in the Universities Central Council on Admissions handbook of undergraduate courses as no longer offering courses in Russian or Russian studies, and the numbers offering new courses in each academic year since 1979–80 are as follows:

There was no change in the numbers of polytechnic courses in Russian during this period.
