HC Deb 24 February 1986 vol 92 cc448-9W
Mr. Nellist

asked the Paymaster General what was the number of job vacancies registered at Coventry at the latest available date; and how many of those were (a) part-time, (b) situated outside the Coventry travel-to-work area and (c) funded by community programme, or other special employment measures.

Mr. Lang

The number of vacancies, excluding those funded by special employment measures, registered at Coventry jobcentre remaining unfilled on 3 January 1986 was 729, of which 72 were part-time—i.e., for less than 30 hours per week. In addition, there were 240 unfilled vacancies funded by special employment measures, of which 197 involved work for less than 35 hours per week.

The exact location of vacancies relating to travel-to-work area boundaries could be established only at disproportionate cost, although it is likely that the majority of vacancies registered at Coventry jobcentre are in the Coventry and Hinckley travel-to-work area.

Mr. Nellist

asked the Paymaster General if he will give for Coventry the latest unemployment figures, broken down by age, sex and duration.

Mr. Lang

Following is the requested information, which is available in the library.
