HC Deb 24 February 1986 vol 92 c434W
Mr. Bell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he proposes to reach a decision on proposals to introduce Gaelic street names into Northern Ireland in accordance with proposals put to him during the course of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference on 11 December 1985.

Mr. Scott

Views and proposals on the position of the Irish language in Northern Ireland were put forward by the Irish side at the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference on 10 January 1986. We are considering them. We shall also consider the views of other interested parties expressed outside the conference.

Mr. Bell

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what representations have been made by outside bodies concerning the proposals to introduce Gaelic street names into Northern Ireland.

Mr. Scott

The Government have received representations on the use of Irish street names from various individuals and groups including Newry and Mourne district council, Derry city council and the West Belfast committee of Glor na nGael.
