HL Deb 20 February 1986 vol 471 c810WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will change the name of Sellafield to Windscale.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Gray of Contin)

The Sellafield site comprises both the Windscale Chemical Reprocessing Plant and the Calder Hall Magnox power station. Following organisation and managerial changes, the name Sellafield was adopted by British Nuclear Fuels Limited in March 1981 for the whole site. Sellafield is the old and established name for the locality. I am informed that no change is planned.
