§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsThe importance of the beef variable premium scheme for beef producers and indeed consumers in Wales is fully recognised and this will be taken into account in the common agricultural policy price negotiations. However, it must be recognised that opposition to the scheme will be stronger than usual this year as the Community seeks to achieve a harmonised beef regime.
