§ Mr. RentonThe Case of Elena Gurevich and her family is known to us although our information is sketchy. Miss Gurevich, who was born in 1964, has been among those not allowed to leave the Soviet Union since 1974 when her parents submitted their first visa application to emigrate to Israel. This was rejected on the grounds that Mrs. Gurevicha had had access to classified information as a messenger in an institute which tracked sputniks. All subsequent visa applications have been similarly turned down.
