HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 cc5-6W
Mr. Peter Buinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the average (a) hourly and (b) daily cost per man of providing protection for foreign diplomats; what was the total cost to public funds in 1985 of providing protection to diplomats based in London; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The average hourly and daily cost per man of providing protection for foreign diplomats cannot be calculated without disproportionate cost; the total cost to public funds in 1985 of providing protection to diplomats based in London is estimated to be about £14.65 million.
