Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list all the Scottish central educational institutions, giving in each case their total capacity and current complement of students in full-time equivalents.

A list of the Scottish central institutions, showing the number of full-time equivalent students in each institution in the 1984–85 academic session is as follows. As noted in the report dated 5 June 1985 by the Comptroller and Auditor General on the Scottish Education Department's control of further education establishments, central institutions are generally operating up to the limits of their capacity. An exception is Leith nautical college where student numbers are declining as a result of measures being taken to rationalise nautical education.
