HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 cc24-5W
Mr. Michael Cocks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what level of central Government grant Avon county council will receive in 1986–87; what level of grant will be received in 1985–86; and what are the recommended levels of expenditure in those years.

Mrs. Rumbold

The figures for Avon county council are as follows:

£ million
1985–86
Expenditure target 316.8
Latest budget 327.1
Latest block grant entitlement 91.5
1986–87
RSG Settlement Expenditure assumption (1985–86 budget plus 3.4 per cent.) 338.9
Block grant at this level 85.3

Mr. Michael Cocks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the current grant-related expenditure allocation for Avon county council; what is the average grant-related expenditure allocation for all shire counties; and what are the reasons for the difference.

Mrs. Rumbold

Avon county council's GRE for 1986–87 is £341.060 million. This is equivalent to £362.91 per head of population. This compares with an average for all shire counties of £381.77 per head. Avon's GRE per head is slightly below the average mainly in respect of education. Avon has fewer children of school age per head of population than shire counties as a whole.
