HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c773W
Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent discussions he has had with Unisys, Burroughs Machines Ltd., concerning the proposed closure of its plant in Cumbernauld new town; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

Officials of the Industry Department for Scotland have been in contact with company representatives in the United Kingdom and Detroit throughout the last 10 months. Regrettably, Unisys found itself unable to accept our latest offer of regional assistance. I have made if clear that the Department remains ready to provide whatever help it properly can for any proposals aimed at securing jobs at the plant.
