HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c748W
Mr. Phillip Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the dates during the last five years on which his Department has issued import licences for toucan berbet birds; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

My Department has not issued any import licences for the toucan berbet (Semnovnis ramphastinus) during the last five years.

Imports of this species require a licence under section 1 of the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act 1976. All applications for licences are considered on their merits in the light of such advices may be received from the Department's scientific advisers, the Nature Conservancy Council, on the conservation status of the species in the wild.
