asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the total allowable catches and quotas for 1987 discussed at the meetings of the European Council of Fisheries Ministers on 17 and 18 December.

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply given today by my right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, to my hon. Friend the Member for Scarborough (Sir M. Shaw). Overall, I am confident that we have secured a good balance between the requirements of the industry and the need to conserve stocks for the future.
