HC Deb 19 December 1986 vol 107 c756W
Mr. Wheeler

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Government of India with regard to the position of Bangladeshi refugees who do not wish to be returned to Bangladesh against their will and especially the refugees now in the state of Tripura; and if he will make representations to the Indian Government to allow the International Red Cross to visit these people.

Mr. Eggar

We have made no representations to India but understand that the Indian and Bangladesh Governments have already held bilateral talks on this matter. We are consulting both the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva to see if there is cause for concern.
