HC Deb 16 December 1986 vol 107 cc448-9W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much money has been provided under the Development of Tourism Act 1969 by way of grants to bus operators in Wales in each of the past seven years; and what proportion of applicants for such grants are successful.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Since 1979 the Wales Tourist Board has received two applications from bus operators in Wales for financial assistance under section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969. One was approved and a grant of £17,000 paid in 1983.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the latest figures for the average cost of public expenditure for every job created in the tourist industry in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The information is not available. However, in 1985–86 the average cost per job for tourism schemes aided by the Wales Tourist Board was just over £7,000.
