HC Deb 12 December 1986 vol 107 cc281-2W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what processes his Department adopts to monitor the amount of residential building land currently available and capable of immediate development.

Mr. Waldegrave

My Department obtains information from local planning authorities about the amount of residential land with outstanding planning permission, indicating whether the permission is outline only or full permission. Most of the latter is likely to be available for immediate development.

Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give, on a county to county basis, the amount of underdeveloped building land currently benefiting from outline planning consent expressed in acres or hectares.

Mr. Waldegrave

Returns from local authorities indicate that the area of land with planning permission for residential development in March 1986 was as set out in the following table:

These figures are based on returns from districts. They include estimates for non response where necessary. Where a whole county has not responded, this is shown by a letter (E).

Returns are not all made on the same basis. In some counties all districts make returns for all sites (a), in others returns relate to sites more than 10 dwellings (L). M denotes where there is a mixture of returns.
