HL Deb 09 December 1986 vol 482 c1139WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to discuss with the governments of Spain, Poland and Japan reports from Argentina to the effect that Argentina expected to sign "fishing agreements" with them "within the next ninety days", on the same basis as the agreements signed earlier with the Soviet Union and Bulgaria.

Baroness Young

We have made clear in our declaration of 29th October 1986 and directly to these and other governments with an interest in the South West Atlantic fishery, that in accordance with international law we have the exclusive right to establish a fisheries limit extending 200 nautical miles from the Falkland Islands, subject to the need for a boundary in the West; and that any agreement that sought to disregard this right would have no basis in international law.
