HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 c749W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make it his policy that there is available for all full-time students in Wales undertaking courses at technical and further education colleges, a maintenance grant at least as great as the benefit they would receive if they were unemployed and dependent on supplementary benefit.

Mrs. Rumbold

I have been asked to reply.

Grants to students in non-advanced further education in England and Wales are made at the discretion of local education authorities; in addition the parents of full-time students up to age 19 receive child benefit. Support for students on degree level courses is under consideration by the student support review.
