HC Deb 04 December 1986 vol 106 c785W
30. Mr. Allen Adams

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to strengthen the British distant water fleet.

62. Mr. Dixon

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the amount and planned structure of the British fishing fleet.

Mr. Gummer

The development of the distant water fleet is a matter for the commercial judgment of the vessel owners concerned, but they will be guided by the provisions of new Community measures, which were agreed in principle earlier today by the Fisheries Council, to improve and adapt structures in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

64. Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proposals he has for encouraging the expansion of the Grimsby fishing fleet.

Mr. Gummer

A number of measures already exist to encourage the expansion of the fishing fleet at Grimsby and other ports. These measures will be continued in the new fisheries structures regulations which were agreed in principle earlier today by the Fisheries Council. They will provide a sound framework for future development of the fisheries sector over the next decade.
