§ Mr. Groundasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the backlog of cases awaiting resolution by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board and the staffing of the board.
§ Mr. Batisteasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to reduce the growing backlog of unresolved cases before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.
§ Mr. MellorAs announced in connection with the Government's autumn financial statement, substantial additional funds are to be provided for the criminal injuries compensation scheme over the next three years. The additional provision for Great Britain in 1987–88 will be £33 million, which represents an increase of some 65 per cent. on the previously planned provision, and larger additional sums are to be provided in later years. The additional money will allow the recruitment of more staff for the board, and will finance substantially increased numbers of compensation payments.
