§ 18. Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement about the proposal of President Alfonsin on 18 November to end the state of hostilities in the south Atlantic.
§ Mr. EggarThe specific points in the Argentine declaration of 17 November are all conditional on negotiations on sovereignty. As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister stated on 18 November, we are not prepared to negotiate sovereignty.
§ 44. Sir John Biggs-Davisonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about Anglo-Argentine relations with special reference to the south Atlantic.
§ 57. Mr. Tim Smithasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy on non-negotiability of the sovereignty and self-determination of the Falkland Islanders in the light of the recent offer made by the Government of Argentina.
§ Mr. EggarWe shall continue to seek more normal relations with Argentina, while honouring our commitments to defend the Falkland Islanders' right to self-determination. We are disappointed that Argentina continues to refuse to co-operate on matters of practical importance to us both. In addition, I refer my hon. Friend to the answer that I gave the hon. Member for Berwick-Upon-Tweed (Mr. Beith) earlier today.
