Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether any provision is made in the calculation of the funds made available to the University Grants Committee for the upkeep of listed buildings occupied by universities and other institutions of higher education.

Mr. Dunn

There is no specified provision for the upkeep of listed buildings either in the recurrent grant allocated to universities on the advice of the UGC or in the funding of local authority and grant aided institutions of higher education.
