§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will extend the mandatory qualification for teachers for the deaf to teachers in a peripatetic-advisory role; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. DunnMy right hon. Friend has no plans at present to amend the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1982 as regards the mandatory qualifications for teachers of both the hearing impaired. Before extending the present requirement, he would need to be satisfied that there were sufficient opportunities for specialist training to meet the extra demand that would be created.
§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects to reply to the letter sent to his Department by the National Deaf Children's Society on 1 August concerning the training of teachers of the deaf.
