HC Deb 01 December 1986 vol 106 c536W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons, and of which grades, are employed in his Department on monitoring and surveying his agreement with the tobacco industry on advertising.

Mrs. Currie

The new voluntary agreement on cigarette advertising, concluded earlier this year with the Tobacco Advisory Council, provided for a new committee with responsibility for monitoring the agreement to be set up under an independent chairman. On 4 November my right hon. Friend announced the appointment of Sir Peter Lazarus to chair the new body, which plans to start work before the end of the year. The committee is drawn equally from the industry and the five Government Departments mainly concerned. The three officials representing this Department are in grades 2, 3 and 5 respectively; other officials provide administrative support.
