HC Deb 01 December 1986 vol 106 c481W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many graduate entrants have joined the Metropolitan police in each of the last five years; what proportion of that force's manpower they represent; and what proportion of graduates recruited to the police service in England and Wales they represent.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The number of graduates recruited by the Metropolitan Police was 158 in 1981, 175 in 1982, 195 in 1983, 122 in 1984 and 113 in 1985. On 31 August, 1,324 graduates were serving with the Metropolitan Police—4.9 per cent. of the force strength and 24.2 per cent. of the total number of graduates serving in police forces in England and Wales.
