HC Deb 01 December 1986 vol 106 c441W
Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he is taking during the current year to deter the drinking driver and to reduce his risk of involvement in alcohol-related road traffic accidents.

Mr. Ancram

The Government's road safety publicity campaign aims at making people more aware of the dangers of drinking and driving. It has been focused on specific times of year, and the December phase this year will again convey a clear cut message: "If you drink and drive you're a menace to society."

In addition, as part of European Road Safety Year, police forces in Scotland have initiated a policy of breath-testing, where practicable, every driver and motorcycle rider involved in a road accident.
