Whether the Lord Advocate has received any requests for an inquiry into the death of Willie McRae.

I have received a number of letters requesting that a public inquiry be held into the circumstances surrounding the death of William McRae of 6 Balvicar Drive, Glasgow, on 7th April 1985. These circumstances were fully investigated by the Procurator Fiscal at Inverness and considered by Crown Counsel. The results of the Procurator Fiscal's full investigation were disclosed to the next of kin and discussed with him. He has expressed satisfaction with the extent of that investigation and has indicated that there is no wish on the part of the family for a public inquiry. No public inquiry under the Fatal Accidents and Sudden Deaths Inquiry (Scotland) Act 1976 has been instructed
