§ Sir Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what criteria he exercises and what advice he gives when material witnesses of British nationality are asked to give evidence in court cases in countries which the United Kingdom does not recognise officially at the present time.
§ Mr. RentonWe regard the situation where a British national is asked to give evidence in a court in a foreign country as a matter between that person and the relevant foreign authority. If my hon. Friend would like to write with specific details of any particular case we will be happy to look into the matter.
