HL Deb 21 April 1986 vol 473 c1065WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the present status, if any, of INTOR, an international project for the development of a toroidal reactor.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Gray of Contin)

The International Tokamak Reactor (INTOR) Workshop is a collaborative study, conducted under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency, aimed at identifying the objectives and characteristics of a next major experiment in the world fusion programme beyond the present generation of the large tokamaks. It has been agreed that in the current phase, lasting until the end of 1987, work will concentrate on development of innovative design concepts to improve the performance of the tokamak.
