HC Deb 21 April 1986 vol 96 c74W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his policy towards the prevention and treatment of alcoholism, in the light of the report "An Agenda for Action on Alcohol", a copy of which has been forwarded to him.

Mr. Whitney

I am aware of the proposals set out in "Agenda for Action on Alcohol Abuse", many of which are primarily the responsibility of other Departments. Government policy on the prevention and treatment of alcohol misuse remains as set out in the discussion document "Drinking Sensibly" which the Health Departments issued in 1981. That document made a number of suggestions for the development of appropriate future strategies for combating alcohol misuse, many of which have already been adopted or are currently being developed.
