Whether the recent directive issued by the European Commission dealing with Community audiovisual policy, based on the Green Paper "Television without Frontiers", is compatible with statements made by Ministers on the Green Paper, and whether the existing high British standard will be protected in any discussions concerning a common framework of regulations setting technical and creative standards.
§ Lord GlenarthurAlthough a draft directive was adopted by the Commission on 19th March, it has not yet been published. In any future discussions on the text, we shall seek to ensure an outcome consistent with the Government's commitment to broadcasting services which achieve the highest standards in quality, popularity and diversity of consumer choice.
