The Scottish Council for Research in Education and various colleges of education have carried out assessments of aspects of teaching and learning in open-plan primary schools in Scotland, of which the most recent is contained in SCRE's "Management and Organisation in a Variety of Open-Plan Primary Schools" (1982).
