HC Deb 10 April 1986 vol 95 c155W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in the light of the weather conditions experienced over the Easter weekend, he will now undertake the necessary consultation with the Churches with a view to laying draft orders before both Houses of Parliament to invoke the provisions of the Easter Act 1928 providing that Easter Day shall be the first Sunday after the second Saturday in April.

Mr. Mellor

No. Inquiries undertaken by the Government in 1984 showed that there was no early prospect of the orthodox Churches adopting a common date for Easter. It would not be desirable to act without consensus on this issue.
