HC Deb 10 April 1986 vol 95 c179W
Mr. Budgen

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is his policy in relation to derelict flats and other similar single-use units built by the Housing Executive in the 1960s which have proven to be unsuitable in design, materials and method of construction; whether that policy has recently been changed or modified; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

Proposals for dealing with unoccupied Housing Executive dwellings of whatever type, age or condition are considered on their individual merits by the Housing Executive and by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland where Departmental approval is necessary. In considering individual cases a full range of options is examined including rehabilitation, disposal by sale to the private sector or a housing association or, as a last resort, demolition.
