HL Deb 07 April 1986 vol 473 c72WA
Lord Granville of Eye

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the serious traffic congestion likely to occur during the tourist season they will ban tourist coaches from the vicinity of Parliament Square.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

No. Though undoubted problems exist in this area, I believe the needs of tourism must be regarded. The Department of Transport has just published a report with suggestions on tourist coaches in London. A copy has been placed in the Library.

A comprehensive look at all the traffic problems of Parliament Square is also being taken in a study being funded jointly by Westminster City Council and the Department of Transport.
