HC Deb 26 November 1985 vol 87 c556W
26. Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give an assurance that neither nerve weapons nor materials to produce such weapons will be allowed into the United Kingdom from any source whatsoever.

Mr. Stanley

The Government's policy on chemical weapons was set out in the reply my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Bexleyheath (Mr. Townsend) on 10 January at column 901. There has been no change in Government policy since then. Some chemicals that could be used as precursors for chemical weapons are the same chemicals that are widely used for normal and bona fide industrial purposes and are not therefore subject to an import ban.
