§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the answer of 14 May, Official Report, column 116, which of his Department's buildings have induction loops; how many other buildings of his Department to which hearing-impaired people may require access, either as employees or clients, are without induction loops; and if he has any plans to install induction loops in more buildings.
§ Mr. NewtonBuildings with induction loops or other hearing systems, excluding amplified telephones for which no central record is available, are:
- Induction Loops
- Bristol South ILO
- Cambridge ILO
- Exeter ILO
- Hannibal House, London
- Other Hearing Aid Systems
- Cardiff East ILO
- Deptford ILO
- Dunstable ILO
- Hendon ILO
- London North Regional Office
I regret that my earlier reply to the right hon. Member indicated that all nine buildings were fitted with induction loops.
The Department occupies 1,074 buildings, including buildings shared with other Departments. There are at present no general plans to install further induction loop systems. Facilities provided for hearing-impaired people are under review, including assessment of experience with induction loop and other systems.
