Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what will be the level for persons retiring in each of the next 15 years on male manual average earnings, of the additional earnings-related component they will receive if they are contracted in to the state earnings-related pension scheme; and if he will estimate the cost each year of crediting in existing pensioners at this level or by some comparable criterion;

(2) how many persons are currently receiving an additional component under the state earnings-related pension scheme; what is the average amount of these pensions; how many of these pensioners are receiving an additional component of less than £1, £1 to £2, £2 to £3, £3 to £4, £4 to £5, £5 to £6, £6 to £7, £7 to £8, £8 to £10, £10 to £15 and over £15; and if he will estimate the equivalent figures for 1990, 1995 and 2000, respectively.
