HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 c351W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will explain the significance of the figures for pigmeat given in the reply of 2 May, Official Report, column 201–06 concerning EEC and other subventions to agricultural production.

Mr. MacGregor

Monetary compensatory amount levies on imports of pigmeat from other member states count as negative expenditure and in 1984–85 were expected to exceed other expenditure in the pigmeat sector (on private storage aids and import and export refunds on trade with non member countries). Negative expenditure is set against the contribution that the Community budget makes towards the cost of market regulation under the CAP in the United Kingdom.
