HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 c351W
Sir Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will press for meat directives issued by the European Commission to be more explicit so that variations in their implementation do not arise in different European countries.

Mrs. Fenner

We share the objective of avoiding variations in the implementation of these directives. Where appropriate, explicit provisions are one means of achieving this. The existing meat hygiene directives also provide for inspection visits by Commission experts to monitor implementation or enforcement. These inspections are scheduled to start this year for red meat premises.
