HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 c336W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what requests he has received from Mr. S. Chityan for assistance to recover his wall of death equipment from Jedda harbour; what action he has taken in response; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

Mr. Chityan, through a friend, approached the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in January for assistance in obtaining a visa for Saudi Arabia and in obtaining the release of his equipment. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office helped him to obtain a visa and arranged for him to discuss the problem with the Saudi Arabian embassy. Her Majesty's embassy in Jedda has also been in touch with the Saudi Arabian authorities and advised Mr. Chityan on measures to secure the equipment's release; unhappily these have as yet been unsuccessful. We are continuing to pursue these efforts and I shall inform my hon. Friend of developments.
