HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 cc335-6W
Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government have made any representations to the Spanish Government regarding the compatibility with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation treaties of restrictions currently being imposed by Spain on United Kingdom military aircraft; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

The Spanish Government are clear about our view on the arrangements currently applying to military aircraft in the Gibraltar region.

Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the precise nature and scope of the limitations currently imposed by Spain on British military aircraft using Gibraltar airfield; and what assessment he has made of the implications of these restrictions for the United Kingdom's contribution to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

Mr. Renton

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply my right hon. and learned Friend gave him on 14 May. Gibraltar's facilities have been an important part of the United Kingdom's contribution to NATO since the inception of the North Atlantic Treaty, and continue to be so.
