HC Deb 20 May 1985 vol 79 c342W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has regarding the development of British Standards for urea formaldehyde insulating materials.

Sir George Young

British Standard 5617: 1978 covers the specification for urea formaldehyde foam for thermal insulation of cavity walls and British Standard 5618: 1978 is a code of practice for such work. The code of practice was amended in 1982 to set detailed requirements in relation to formaldehyde fumes.

The requirements in BS5617 and the criteria in BS5618 for establishing the suitability of properties for cavity filling are at present being reviewed by the British Standards Institute.
