§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps are taken by Her Majesty's Government (a) to monitor and (b) to regulate the flouride content of processed food on sale to the public.
§ Mrs. Fenner[pursuant to her reply, 16 May 1985, c. 206]: Surveys of the fluoride content of food have been carried out on behalf of the steering group on food surveilance, which advises me on these matters. Typical dietary intakes of fluoride give no cause for concern. The fluoride content of processed food is controlled under the general provisions of the Food Act 1984. In addition, regulations made under the Food Act 1984 lay down maximum permitted levels for the flouride content of certain permitted food additives.
