HC Deb 02 May 1985 vol 78 c246W
Mr. Woodcock

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the annual net increase in tax revenue at present levels of taxation which will result from increases in consumption arising from the decision to reduce the maximum lead content of petrol from 0.4 grammes per litre to 0.15 grammes per litre, in the fiscal years ending (a) April 1987, (b) April 1988 and (c) April 1989.

Mr. Hayhoe

I am advised that a reduction of the maximum lead content to 0.15 grammes per litre will not result in a change in the present octane ratings and will not therefore lead to an increase in the consumption of petrol. There will therefore be no revenue effects.
